Evergreen Basic Needs is recipient of $5k Donation from SMI

Our business partner, Saskatchewan Mutual Insurance believes in the value of giving back. Earlier this year, SMI announced that they were once again offering the SMI Broker Donation Fund to independent brokers throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Brokers are invited to submit deserving charities...from the submissions received, three from each province are randomly selected and SMI employees vote on which of the three submissions from each province to support. Interlake Insurance is so proud to announce that our submission of Evergreen Basic Needs was chosen as the Manitoba recipient of a $5000.00 donation. Very happy to be able to give a great boost to the Christmas Hamper Campaign during this very trying time.

Red River Mutual and Interlake Insurance Donation

Winnipeg, MB, November 9, 2020 — Red River Mutual and broker partner Interlake Insurance have together donated $3,000 to the Elizabeth Dueck Park in Arborg, Manitoba. The funds will go toward recycling and garbage bins, encouraging sustainability in the greenspace, and park benches, to increase the ability for safe gathering in the community.

 

"Community involvement is very important to us," says Anne Isfeld, General Manager of Insurance Operations at Interlake Insurance. "Being active in the community allows us to do our part by giving back to the community that we work and live in."

 

Interlake Insurance has been in Arborg since 2013 and, in addition to the donation, Isfeld says the brokerage is interested in continuing their involvement with the Park through volunteering with site work, additional fundraising activities, or however help is needed when it is safe to do so.

 

The Elizabeth Dueck Park, formerly called the Arborg Community Park, is owned and maintained by the Town of Arborg. The greenspace is easily accessible to over 1,200 residents and visitors, and it is intended to promote communal wellness and connectivity by creating a safe and inclusive gathering place. Earlier this year, the park was submitted for Red River Mutual's Spruce Up Your Story campaign, which aims to beautify and restore well-loved spaces at the heart of our Prairie communities.

 

To increase the park's accessibility, the town installed the wheelchair accessible Elizabeth Dueck memorial swing set. Other recent upgrades include picnic tables, new sod, and concrete paved sidewalks to freshen up the area.

 

"It's a space for families and the community members to really come together and, given our current pandemic, this appears to be much more needed," says Cindy Stansell, Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Arborg. "Just a place where they can spread out and be able to enjoy the outside and enjoy being with family."

 

Through donations from businesses like Interlake Insurance and Red River Mutual, the Town of Arborg plans to make more upgrades to the park, such as adding more play equipment for kids and a gazebo to increase available gathering space.

Does your policy cover Underground Service Lines?

Many Insurers offer an Underground Service Line endorsement that fills a coverage gap for homeowners, who often do not realize that they own the outdoor service lines from the street to their house, and from their house to a well, septic tank, or an out-building.

A service line failure is physical damage that results in a leak, break, tear, rupture or collapse of a pipe or arcing wiring.
Common coverage that forms part of this endorsement may include:
Loss of use -  hotels, meals, rent, or other living expenses when a family must leave their
residence because of a covered loss.
Expedited Expenses -  reasonable extra expenses to make temporary repairs and expedite permanent
repairs or replacements.
Excavation Costs - necessary and reasonable excavation costs required to repair or replace the
damaged underground service line.
Environmental & Safety Improvements - if an underground service line requires replacement due to a failure, the additional cost to replace with materials that are better for the environment, safer or more efficient that the materials being replaced.
Outdoor Property Extension - replacement of your outdoor property that is damaged due to a
service line failure. This may include shrubs, trees, lawn and driveways.

If you don't have this coverage on your policy, it is strongly recommended that you consider adding this endorsement. The coverage generally costs about $35-$50 for limits of $10,000 to $25,000.

In an effort to minimize the spread and flatten the curve of COVID-19, all Interlake offices will be closed temporarily to walk in services.

All clients are asked to call or email us to handle any enquiries you may have including General Insurance Transactions and the following Autopac Transactions:
